A Sneak Peek!

Here is a sneak peek at my third novel in development. Just for my readers—enjoy!

The title is Amalie—and it takes place in Europe in 1865.

Amalie turned to the Harbormaster and before she could ask the familiar question, he said, “Sorry Miss, that’s everyone.”

“And the next ship from Liverpool?” she asked already knowing the answer.

“Mid-week, just like today.”

She couldn’t hide her disappointment and didn’t really want to anymore. She was certain she heard him right at the pier in Hamburg—that he would follow her and that she should wait for him—yet ship after ship arrived and he was not on board.

Her resolve was wearing thin. Was she being duped again? Could she trust him after all that happened? Anger was beginning to well up from deep within her and as she turned to walk back up the dock to the Inn, she reminded herself that there was another person she had to consider now—after having discovered that the queasiness she experienced during her crossing had nothing to do with the wake or the rocking ship…..and had everything to do with the life growing in her belly.

What could she do? She was alone, unmarried and apparently still in danger from the forces who were hell-bent on killing her.

As she returned to the Inn, she stopped at the desk and purchased passage on the next carriage heading north. She was almost out of funds and realized that, once again, she would have to disappear—but this time she was fiercely determined not to be found.

On the next Wednesday when the ship arrived from Liverpool, Amalie was not there waiting. However, a tall, handsome Royal Captain disembarked the ship and eagerly approached the Harbormaster to inquire about his beloved.

“Have you seen a beautiful, dark-haired young woman with eyes of deep blue? Has anyone been waiting here for me?”

The Harbormaster nodded.  “She’s been here every week, waiting for the ship from Liverpool. After the last time, she said she was not coming back. The last time I saw her she boarded a carriage to the north country.”

“Did she say where she was going, specifically where up north?” he asked quickly as panic set in.

“No, sorry sir, but I can tell you that she appeared to be positively heartbroken each time you did not arrive. She boarded the carriage at the depot right over there, behind the Inn. That was a few days ago.”

A few days? Oh, God, no….I must find her. She must think I didn’t come for her and I almost lost my life trying to get to her…….

Stay tuned as I take these thoughts and form them into a book worth reading.

As always, with love and appreciation,
